Trip
26/06/2026: It was indeed an adventure for Allira, Chris, my Dad, and I. We had so much luggage to take along on the flight to Brisbane and then on to Incheon, eight pieces - four of which containing the robots and props, some disassembled, and another four for our personal belongings. Allira's is not on the photo.
27/06/2026: While the flight to Brisbane was pretty uneventful, the one to Incheon was a rather 'roarsome' expedition. Checking in the luggage proved to be extremely difficult with tags not printing, conveyor belts jamming, luggage not being able to be checked in, and luggage reported already checked in. All that led to check in taking almost 1.5 hours. There was just enough time before boarding to take a picture with the rest of the team.
The flight was quite eventful too with seat reallocation, and Chris and I feeling unwell most of the flight. I ended up with a severe leg ache which required a visit
to the local airport pharmacy. On top of that, we did not find oversized luggage where the mat and tubes were so my Dad had to go back in the terminal to find them. That led to more delay which the taxi driver did not manage to decrease much even though he was driving half over the speed limit most of the time. When we arrived and he opened the boot, some of the suitcases fell out. Thankfully nothing was broken, just some further disassembled.
But then the worst part of the trip happened. Hotel reception had closed and we were unable to get keys for two of our rooms. We were able to get the ten of us into two double-bed rooms with two each sleeping on the floor, Chris and my Dad in ours.
Preparation
28/06/2026: Thankfully again, the next day we did get our keys, and after moving all the suitcases into the additional rooms, we started working our way reassembling all the devices until early evening.
29/06/2026: We managed to have a good night sleep and finished the setup and started testing the full integration between the LEGO Mindstorms EV3s and the SPIKE Primes.
My Dad added another skill to his resume, that of plumber, when he managed to 'unsituate' a toilet situation :-0
30/06/2026: We finalised costumes and testing and went for a recon at the venue after a hard day's work.
Competition
01/07/2026: We made it to the venue for team meetings and initial practices, and final touches.
02/07/2026: Many of our features did not work as expected so a lot testing was required at the venue and in the apartment. Our first performance did not go very well but we learned our lessons. The technical interview was very challenging for most of the team.
03/07/2026: We returned to the venue for more practice and our second performance. But due to technical issues, it was cancelled and moved to 04/07.
04/07/2026: We had to wake up early again, in time for Team Australia photos and our second
performance. Abi and I felt very sick and I barely made it. But we pushed through with the Australian spirit. While not all devices cooperated, we were able to showcase our features and improvise when they did not perform as they should, while they did the night before. The organisers were very kind and supportive of our circumstances. Thank you to Christine for her support and Thundluck for being accommodating.
Super Teams
04-05/07/2026: We joined the German team 'aTheAmadeus' and the Japanese team 'Meiden RSP' and formed Super Team 'Rock, Paper, Dino Crime' where Bluey and Rexie were burglaring a jewelry store and then chased by the police. An AI robot would decide their fate in a game of 'rock, paper, scissors'.

Awards
05/07/2026: We must have impressed the judges by our resilience during our final performance. We were presented the 떠오르는 특별상 (Gam dong tuk byeol sang) award which translates to 'special rising star', 'special emerging', 'spirit' or 'inspirational' award. It is frequently awarded at competitions or corporate events in South Korea to recognize teams or individuals who show the most inspiring effort, resilience, and outstanding spirit.

mention of it already.

08/07/2026: This is the end of our journey. Friendships were made, some made soul mates. It was all worth it!
